Maximum rate

From 20 September 2026: $1,237.70/fortnight (single, including supplements) — the same rate as the Age Pension.

The assessment process

Centrelink assesses your claim using the Impairment Tables — a set of 15 tables covering different body systems. Your condition must score at least 20 points on one table, or 20 points across multiple tables.

Medical evidence from your treating doctors is the most important part of your claim. Include:

  • Diagnosis from a specialist where possible
  • How the condition affects your ability to work
  • Treatment you have had and ongoing treatment
  • Prognosis (whether the condition is likely to improve)

How to claim

  1. Sign in to myGov and open your Centrelink account.
  2. Select Make a claim > Disability, sickness or carers.
  3. Complete the online claim form. It asks about your disability, work history and circumstances.
  4. Gather and upload medical evidence. You can ask your doctor to complete a Treating Doctor's Report (form SA479).
  5. Centrelink may request a Job Capacity Assessment or further medical review.

Processing can take several months. Consider applying for JobSeeker in the meantime.

If your claim is rejected

You have the right to request a review. Many DSP claims succeed on review, especially with stronger medical evidence. See the review guide for steps.
