When to report
You must report your income on your reporting day — usually within 48 hours of it. If you miss your reporting day, report as soon as possible to avoid an overpayment.
Your reporting day is shown in your myGov Centrelink account under Reporting.
What to report
Report the gross (before tax) amount you earned in the past fortnight. Include:
- Wages and salary (including casual and part-time work)
- Self-employment income (gross receipts, not profit)
- Tips and commissions
Do not report: your Centrelink payment, compensation payments, or income your partner earns (Centrelink already knows about this through your joint assessment).
How to report
- Sign in to myGov.
- Open Centrelink and select Report employment income.
- Enter your gross income for each employer.
- Submit. Your next payment will be adjusted based on the income you reported.
You can also report by calling 133 276 (self-service line) or using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
Getting it wrong
If you report incorrectly and Centrelink overpays you, you will have to pay it back. If you underpay, you get the difference. Always report as accurately as possible — underpayments and overpayments are both fixed in the next fortnight.
